Robert Saleh is an American football offensive consultant for the Green Bay Packers of the NFL as of October 2024. He has 18 years of experience coaching different football teams. He is a professional American Football coach who has guided and elevated many teams like the Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the San Francisco 49ers.
Born in Dearborn, Michigan, United States on January 31, 1979, he initially played football as a tight end for the Northern Michigan Wildcats. However, his brother’s experience during the September 11 attacks of 2001 gave him the encouragement to follow his dreams of becoming a football coach. He started his coaching career with college football teams before switching to the NFL. He won the Super Bowl XLVIII as a coach for the Seattle Seahawks.

College
Robert Saleh started his coaching career in college football. He first joined Michigan State University. There, he worked as an offensive assistant for the Tight ends in 2002 and a defensive assistant for the Defensive ends in 2003. He then joined Central Michigan University and worked as a defensive assistant for the Defensive ends in 2004. His final college coaching was at the University of Georgia in 2005 where he was a defensive assistant for Linebackers.
Houston Texans
This was Robert Saleh’s debut in the NFL. In 2005, he joined the Houston Texans as an intern coach and learned from the senior coaches back then. Then in 2006, he began to work under Richard Smith, the defense coordinator of the Houston Texans as a defensive assistant after he was retained by Gary Kubiak. He continued in this position till 2008. In 2009, the team promoted him to the assistant coach for the Linebackers of the team. He remained the coach for the Linebackers from 2009-2010.
Seattle Seahawks
Robert Saleh next found himself with the Seattle Seahawks. In 2011, he was hired by the team for the role of defensive quality control and working under Pete Carroll. Under his guidance, the defensive unit of the team was called the “Legion of Boom.” His coaching helped the team become the 2013 NFL champions at Super Bowl XLVIII. He stayed with the team from 2011-2013.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Jaguars were the third NFL team in Robert Saleh’s coaching career. He joined the team in 2014 and worked as a coach for the Linebackers under Gus Bradley, the head coach back then. He helped coach the Linebackers till 2016 when Gus Bradley was fired and Doug Marrone was introduced as the new head coach. Subsequently, Saleh was also let go of his position from the team.
San Francisco 49ers
The next stop in Robert Saleh’s NFL coaching career. Head coach Kyle Shanahan brought him in as a defensive coordinator in 2017. Under his guidance, the team managed to be 6th in forced turnovers, 1st in passing defense, 6th in total defense, and 4th in sacks during the NFL season of 2019. They also ranked in the top 10 in both yards and scoring per game since 2003. Moreover, Saleh also helped the team reach Super Bowl LIV, where unfortunately, they were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs. He left the team after 2020.
New York Jets
Robert Saleh became the head coach for the first time when he signed a 5-year contract with the New York Jets on January 14, 2021. However, he was relieved from his duties by the Jets on 8th October 2024 after the team went 20-36 overall under his tenure.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers hired Saleh as a consultant to help with the offensive game plan.
